In your recent roles, what were the average gross monthly sales volumes you managed?
How comfortable are you with point-of-sale systems, drawer balancing, and reporting of separate cash flows such as: ATM, lottery, bank-runs for deposits/change, and safe balancing.
How do you stay on top of daily priorities like inventory, ordering, cash handling, and shift transitions, coupled with the unexpected/unknown pop-up priorities?
How do you keep yourself and your team motivated during slower shifts or downtime, and off-peak seasons?
What monthly budget range have you typically been responsible for managing in your previous roles? (Specifically related to ordering items for re-sale)
In previous rolls do you have experience with direct ordering from multiple avenues: vendor websites, representative communication via email/phone, order forms, as well as seeking thru all avenues for reorder when necessary? (for context: managers are expected to make and oversee all orders of inventory- not just create needs lists or par forms)
What size teams have you led in the past? Could you describe the basic roles and responsibilities of those team members?
What does holding a team accountable look like to you on a day-to-day basis?
Tell me about a time you had to coach or discipline a team member—what did you do and how did it turn out?
What performance metrics (e.g., sales per employee, customer conversion rates, etc.) do you consider essential in a retail environment? How have you tracked and acted on these metrics in your previous roles?
How would you handle a situation where an employee calls out last minute, and the shift is left uncovered? How do you go about determining if an absence/late arrival is excused/unexcused?
How you stay consistent with company policies when others aren’t following them? For example, how would you handle a situation where an employee is ringing things up incorrectly or misusing discounts?
What’s your method for ensuring consistent cleanliness and store presentation of merchandise, displays, as well as file-keeping and notations.
If selected for this position, when would you be able to start? Are there any constraints on your start date, or a notice of departure to work around at a current position?
What does your weekly availability look like, and are you open to covering shifts at short notice if needed? This role involves both weekend coverage and closing/opening—are there any conflicts with that?
